Ancestral know-how and innovation In 1840, Jean Baptiste André Godin had the idea of replacing the traditional sheet fireplace with an enamelled cast iron fireplace.
"Time will tell" the genius and inventor confidently claimed in 1880. He was right to be confident, and Godin is now a generic noun.
